How Much Do I Need To Exercise? Cause I HATE Working Out!

Since you were a kid, the word “exercise” has always given you the chills… And I get that!

What’s fun in running in circles, or worst, on a treadmill? Sweating? Feeling pain under you ribs, in you calves, in your chest?

What about going to a class where everybody seems to get it faster than you, or trying to lift weight in the middle of these super-lean-full-of-muscles people?

         Nope, not fun at all!

But your doctor told you “you need to exercise”.

That it’ll improve your health…

That it’ll lower your blood sugar…

That if you don’t start now, you might need medication in a few months…

So what can you do?

Well, I have EXCELLENT news for you.

What your doctor meant is that you need to MOVE, not sweat like crazy!

Let me explain.

Exercise doesn’t always mean lifting weights, running a marathon or swimming 100 hundred laps. These activities are considered vigorous.

But you can also be physically active with much easier activities, some you already do every single week and could easily count towards the 150 min/week recommended for good health:

  • Yoga
  • Walking your dog (and picking up too…)
  • Running after your toddler (if you laugh, your it’ll be even better for your heart!)
  • Playing soccer/catch with the kids (exercising can be pleasant!)
  • Going for a bike ride
  • Gardening (all these squats you never counted…)
  • Housecleaning (especially vacuuming and doing windows)
  • Grocery shopping (all this walking in the aisles, lifting heavy boxes…)
  • And, best of all, LOVE MAKING!

The point of these activities is for your heart to beat slightly faster: your blood circulates better and distributes more oxygen to your muscles and your brain.

One more GOOD NEWS: don’t do it all at once, it’s best to spread it all over your week, as long as it’s for at least 10 minutes at a time!

And don’t forget about all the positive aspects of being physically active:

  • Maintains a healthy weight
  • Deals with stress
  • Releases fatigue
  • Helps manage diabetes
  • Increase your chances of living longer and healthier
  • Improves quality of life
  • Helps avoid hereditary health problems

Find an activity you like and have fun. You’ll soon be surprised by the results!
